Canare 16-Channel Twisted Pair Multi Channel Microphone Cable - 656'

Questions about this product?
  • 656' (200m) bulk reel of Canare's 16-channel twisted pair microphone snake cable - each of the 16 channels is individually isolated with 2 twisted 25 AWG conductors under a 100% aluminum foil shield and drain wire, with color-striped PVC channel jackets that eliminate the need for shrink tubing during identification.
  • Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation resists melting and shrink-back during soldering; flexible construction suited to control room layout, rack-to-rack interconnects, and patchbay wiring; channel and conductor color coding follows the international resistor color code standard for fast identification during termination.
  • Designed for general studio applications rather than conduit-pull or field/touring use where the cable is subject to strong pulling force; ideal for building custom studio snakes, console-to-rack wiring, and permanent installation runs.

The Canare 16-Channel Twisted Pair Multi Channel Microphone Cable - 656' is a bulk 656' (200m) reel of Canare's widely used MR202-16AT multichannel audio snake cable, built for studio installations, control room wiring, and any application requiring a high channel count in a single flexible cable run. The Canare 16-Channel Twisted Pair Multi Channel Microphone Cable - 656' packages 16 individually shielded and isolated microphone-level channels into a single 0.551" diameter cable, dramatically simplifying wiring compared to running 16 separate cables.

Individually shielded channels

Each of the 16 channels consists of two twisted 25 AWG conductors wrapped in a 100% aluminum foil shield with its own drain wire, fully isolating each channel from crosstalk and interference from the others in the bundle. The color-striped PVC channel jacket allows each channel to be identified by color at either end of the cable without needing heat-shrink tubing or additional labeling - a meaningful time-saver when terminating a 16-channel snake at both ends.

XLPE insulation and construction

Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation provides strong electrical performance while resisting the melting and shrink-back that can occur with standard PVC insulation during soldering - a common cause of unreliable connections in high-channel-count snake cable termination. The overall PVC outer jacket protects the bundle while remaining flexible enough for practical routing through control rooms, equipment racks, and studio walls. A -4°F brittle point allows the cable to remain workable in cool environments.

Intended use

The MR202-16AT series is designed for general studio applications - control room layout, rack-to-rack interconnect, patchbay wiring, and permanent studio installation - rather than conduit-pull installations or touring/field applications where the cable is subject to repeated strong pulling force. For those higher-stress use cases, a cable specifically rated for conduit or field deployment is the more appropriate choice.
